East Ocean Teochew Restaurant

This is probably the 576252198209th time that we are eating here and of course out of the many times, a huge percentage of it are dedicated for their dim sum. This is the best in terms of taste and of course the price, after Dim Joy has closed down.

East Ocean is a typical Chinese restaurant where the staffs would push the dim sum trolley around and shouting out what are the dim sum they have for each of their trolley or tray. It feels as though you are in Hong Kong as the aunties will start shouting around in Cantonese.

   Steamed Cuttlefish with Curry

This has got to be my favorite at East Ocean. The cuttlefish is so soft and tender and it also adsorb the curry sauce well.

Price: $5.80

Steamed Ha Kau

The prawn is big and the skin of the ha kau is thin which allows you to taste the the sweetness of the prawn. It comes in 4.

Price: $5.80

Steamed BBQ Pork Rice Roll

Price: $5.80

Steamed Custard Bun

The custard egg yolk ooze out of the steamed bun when you take a bite. Have to be caution as it may be very hot when it is first served. It also comes in 4 and the size of each custard bun is pretty small. But it is good as your stomach will have more space for different variety of dim sum.

Price: $4.80

Steamed Siew Mai

Price: $4.80

Deep-Fried Beancurd Skin

Price: $5.80

Mini Egg Tarts

Price: $5.80

$52 for 2 pax is quite ok and it is really filling. We had our dinner on the same day at only 10.30pm because we were so full from the lunch.

Total Price: $52

Madam Saigon

It has been around for a long time and I have never patronize this Vietnamese restaurant before even though we are often hanging around in Bugis area.

I have walked pass this very prominent restaurant (Because of the red outline at the entrance) situated at Liang Seah Street countless of times all these while. Last week, we ended our Christmas shopping pretty late and have quite a few errands to run thus we decided to have our dinner at Porn's due to some Thai food craving. However when we reached, Porn's was already closed. We were famished as it was already 10pm so we thought we would just settle at Madam Saigon since it is just next to where we were standing.

We are not a fan for Vietnamese food and this is actually the 3rd time I am having Vietnamese food in Singapore. The best I ate was in Ho Chi Minh where I had the best pho ever!

Mixed Roll Prawn

The mixed spring rolls comes in 3 different kinds. there are 4 steam ones, 4 fried ones and 2 with bigger ones with the tail of the prawn. All 3 kinds taste really good especially when dipped into the sauce. There are also 2 different sauces and 1 is for fried rolls, the other for steam rolls. The friend waiter told us which is for which and they tasted really well together.

Price: $20.50

Grilled Chicken Noodle

This is actually a little disappointing though. I was expecting a bowl of pho but it tasted more like kway teow. It is also a little hard and the soup was far from what I had in Vietnam 2 years ago. It looks rather plain with no colors but that is because i requested not to have any spring onion. I know people usually order the beef one instead of chicken but because I do not eat beef.... so I have to opt for the chicken.

Price: $9.90

Seafood Fried Kway Teow

B ordered this and it is pretty good. It is friend with seafood such as cuttlefish, prawns and crab sticks.

Price: $13.50

We also ordered lemongrass cooler and the ice fruit tea. Didn't have a picture of both as they look really normal and tasted nothing special as well.

Five and Dime

After hearing so  much about it and that I finally convinced myself to wake up early on a Saturday morning, we headed down to River Valley for brunch at Five and Dime. When we reached, we were warmly greeted by a lady who asked if we had made any reservation. We did not! Thank God there are still available seats for the 3 of us.

These really caught my attention and I couldn't help but to ask the friendly waitress if they sell them. HIRO, Ding Dang and TORA! They used to be my favorite when I was young. I'm sure these do look familiar to some of you.

 I

The same waitress who greeted us at the door took the initiative and gave us each a name card so that we can make a reservation the next time we visit. She also show us the lunch and dinner menu which they would not bring it to you normally as we were having breakfast. Thumbs up to her service and also the friendly smile that you don't fail to see it on her face. And I have to say she is the only friendly one working there.

Flat White

Price: $6

Cappuccino

B had the cappuccino and she feels that there isn't much coffee taste and it is a bit too milky.

Price: $6

Strawberries and cream

E ordered this and I have to say that it taste really great. Its sweet and rich with fresh strawberries taste.

Price: $12

Fish and Chips

B had the fish and chips and personally I will not order this again when I visit the place next time. No doubt the serving is huge and $20 is ok for the portion served but I feel that it is too oily to have for brunch. Or rather, I wouldn't order even if its lunch or dinner. The fries is extremely oily and it makes me feel a little unwell after eating.

Price: $20

Mentaiko Pasta

This is awesome! E gave me a spoonful to try so that i will be able to review on it. It was really good. It has the taste of mayonnaise sauce mixed with Mentaiko (明太子) and the combination is really good. I will order it the next time i visit!

Price: $18

Buttermilk Pancakes with additional Breakfast Potatoes

I am not a fan of pancakes and the reason that I ordered this was because I wanted to have something that is not so filling. I added a serving of breakfast potatoes too. You can choose if you want to have bacon or sausages as one of the sides. So it also comes with this fruit salad and maple syrup.

The pancakes are real fluffy and thick! The butter served on top of the pancakes are really nice and salty. I hate unsalted butter, so this salty one served here matches my liking. The breakfast potatoes have got some herbs taste and at the same time still able to taste the potatoes. Its definitely much better as compared to the deep fried handmade fries served together with the fish and chips.

Price: $15 + $2

The pancake is thick! I managed to fished only one of them and the rest of the sides.

Total bill: $92.98

I do feel that the price is a little steep, especially for the drinks. Especially the coffee are not exactly fantastic, $6 a cup is on the high side.

Nolboo Hangari Galbi (Orchard Central)

This is one of my favorite Korean restaurant in Singapore. I am not so much of a Korean BBQ fan. I prefer to order the ala carte dishes when I have Korean cuisine. Most importantly, what I love most have got to be the many complimentary side dishes that will be served in all Korean restaurant. HOWEVER.... I was so hungry yesterday when we had our dinner at only around 9pm.... I forgotten all about taking the picture of the size dishes. When I realized, half of the size dishes have already vanished!

Menu

Appetizer

This sweet porridge appetizer is complimentary from the restaurant as well. They serve all customers this before serving the side dishes then those that you have ordered. It tasted a little like pumpkin. I do not like it personally and so I don't eat that whenever I come.

Seafood Fried Rice

Price: $15.90

This is the second time that I am eating this and still lovin it! The only think that I can fault this plate of colourful fried rice is too the amount of diced cucumber, carrot, red and green pepper. The are so much of them that I can hardly eat a mouthful of plain fried rice. There are squid and prawns in the fried rice and that's about it. But the taste of it is really good. The serving is relatively huge which I thought it can be serve for 2. I had this alone and I was really filled the brim of my stomach. I couldn't finish all of them.

Chicken Bibimbap

Price: $17.90

B had the chicken bibimbap. It is spicy but not to the unbearable extend of course. I had a taste of it but feels that it was really nothing special other than the generous serving of chicken.

Seafood Soy Bean Paste Stew

Price: $15.90

This soup does come together with a bowl of white rice. So it is good for one's main dish. However we ordered this to share and requested not to have the bowl of rice as we know that we will not be able to finish them. It comes with a prawn, some squid and shell fish. There are 2 pieces of tofu which taste really good together with the soup.

The total bill sums up to $58.50. The price does look a little overprice for whatever we have ate. But i guess due to the love for Korean food, we would come again. This is already our 3rd time.

Menya Musashi

This is the first time we patronize this restaurant. We happened to spot this Japanese ramen restaurant while we were shopping at raffles city. It's tuck at a corner of the shopping mall, next to the other entrance of Raffles City where there is a taxi stand. It is located opposite Raoul.

The ramen comes in "white", "black" and "red" soup based. They have another branch at Ion which replaces the back then Aoba. There are not much variety of side dishes to choose from and to me this is a minus point. I'm quite sucker for side dishes and I would prefer that they come out with more varieties of starters.

Gyoza

We love Japanese gyoza and because this seems to be the only side dish that attracts us, we ordered them. It comes with 5 gyozas for a plate. The skin of the gyozas are thin enough, but its rather normal. Nothing special about it. Since it only costs $5.90, its still quite worthwhile to order them.

Black Kakuni Ramen

I ordered the black Kakuni ramen which is also the pork belly ramen. The taste of the pork belly was good. However it is a little hard and I don't quite agree to some of the comment made online that stated the meat was so soft that it melts in the mouth. The meat is rather thick. It cost $14.90.

Black Cha Shu Ramen

B had the Black Cha Shu Ramen which is cooked in the same kind of broth as mine. The black broth is thick with collagen. Both ramen comes with some vegetables, black fungus, a piece of seaweed and also half of an hard boiled egg. The portion of the noodles are enough to fill up an empty stomach, probably because the soup was thick as well. The Cha Shu ramen is slightly cheaper at only $12.90.

Our dinner cost $42.02.

Tiong Bahru Bakery (Raffles City)

We finally visited the Tiong Bahru Bakery at Raffles City after such a long time. I know that probably half of the population in Singapore has tasted that before and we are e probably the 16752963730th one blogging about it. Its better late than never!

Croissant

There have been so much hype about this plain looking croissant which I personally feel that it could be one of the better ones that I have tasted so far. But its definitely not the best that I have tasted. I like it because it is not oily but yet has the buttery taste. I would say it is worth giving it a try for $2.80.

Kouign Aman

This pastry is my favorite! Its not exactly crispy as it is a little sticky and its sweet. Love the taste of it and i can definitely have more than 2 of them for snacks. I would mind paying for the price of $3.50 for something that is so yums.

Pumpkin Soup

The pumpkin soup cost $8 a bowl and I feel that it is pretty worth it because it is quite a big bowl and we share it between the both of us. The soup is thick and it comes with 2 pretty big prawns in it. We finished every bit of it!

Cappuccino

B had the cappuccino which costs $5.50. The size of the cappuccino is the same as my flat white.

Flat White

The flat white costs $5.50 as well. It is much thicker as compare to the normal ones I get from most restaurant. However I would think that the aroma and the taste of the coffee is not strong enough. It is a much bigger cup as compare to those really nice ones I've drank in Rome and Sydney which cost about the same price after the conversion.

For all that we had, I would say that the price is pretty decent and affordable. I was rather full after this meal and I would go back again for the Kouign Aman for sure!
