China Whampoa Handmade Noodles and Bee Guan Coffee Stall

I would still think that this is one of the better ban mian that I have tasted so far. I haven eaten this for many times and I just don't feel sick about it. The soup of many ban mian, such as Qiu Lian Ban Mian is rather thick and that makes you full very quickly. However this only Ban Mian stall in Whampoa serves it's ban mian in light clear soup which makes you want to have more of the soup. The soup remains piping hot even if you take away.

The man in pink is the owner of the stall. He will be the one taking orders and his wife will be cooking at the back. A lot of times, the stall owners of these hawker stalls tend to get abit impatient and short tempered whenever the queue is long and customers complain about the wait. The stall owner of this ban mian stall remain calm and would apologize for the long wait (which I feel that he need not have apologize because it is not his fault for the long queue!) to this customers.

There are about different types that you can order. Prawns, Pacific Clams, Sliced Fish, Fish Maw, Pg's Kidney. They also serve different kind of noodles such as You Mian, Ban Mian, Mee Hoon Kway, Ee Mee, Bee Hoon, Cintan Mee and Mee Sua.

Be prepared to queue for at least 30 mins. We waited for about 40 mins for our bowl of you mian and ban mian.

Abalone Clams You Mian and Ban Mian

Price: $4 per bowl

The homemade chilli sauce is a MUST! Mixed it in the soup or dip it with every mouth of noodles. No matter what, the chilli is a MUST try.

While waiting for our ban mian to be ready, we saw alot of people ordering some special drinks from this very normal looking drinks stall beside the ban mian stall. The stall looks exactly like any other drinks stall in the hawker center. The stall owner was very busy making drinks, delivering them all by himself the moment that we sat down. We noticed that he was really busy for a good 30 mins without a minute of rest in between.

When I finally see that he's free, I went up to him and ask him about his special drinks. The first thing he did was to pass me this to me. So it was a printed article by ieat ishoot ipost featuring his famous orange peel and sour plum drink. It cost only $1.50 per cup. Each cup also comes together with a cup of ice water. The uncle told us that we should not stir and mix the drinks. When we have drink half a cup of it, we can pour the ice water in to mix. The taste will still be there. I did what he told me to, but I would prefer not to have pour in the water as it becomes more bland. The taste is still there but I prefer it stronger, sweeter and more sour. So if you like strong taste like I do, then try not to pour mix in the ice water.

He also sell the more concentrated version in bottle form. Uncle also told us that this can be use for about 10 cups of drinks. Each bottle cost only $3! It is very cheap!

So who says you can only order the usual can drinks, tea and coffee from the drinks stall in a hawker center. Bee Guan gives you the most thirst quenching home made drinks at only $1.50 a cup! What a creative uncle we've got here! He is also friendly and chatty all the time no matter how busy he is.

Hide Yamamoto

We have always wanted to visit here and here we are finally!

Hide Yamamoto! This is the fifth restaurant by Chef Hide Yamamoto but the first in Singapore. We were lucky to have seats even without reservation. Perhaps we were there rather early for dinner, so the crowd isn't there yet. By the time that we leave, the restaurant is kinda pack with the dinner crowd.

The Teppanyaki Area

There are 5 different areas where you can choose to sit. If you are having teppanyaki, you can choose to sit at the area where you can see the chefs preparing your dinner right in front of you. But if you do not want to, you can also choose to sit at another area and yet able to enjoy the teppanyaki dishes.

We chose the Ramen sitting area.

The Menu

Pardon my ignorance, but I was very amazed and excited when I see the spherical ice cubes in the ice water served.

Snow Crab and Mushroom Clay Pot Rice with ANKAKE sauce, Truffle Flavor

It is served piping hot and the staff warned us about not touching the sides of the clay pot as it was very hot. The sauce(top left hand corner) is served seperately.

The serving of the snow crab meat is generous. They are definitely real crab meats and not those crab sticks that can be bought in supermarkets.

Pour the sauce into the clay pot.

Mix the sauce and rice together while pouring. Mix them well so that every grain of rice can absorb the fragrance of the sauce.

We scooped them out and eat using the side plate instead. The texture of the rice is soft and moist after mixing together with the sauce. The truffle taste is so strong that it makes me wanna have more rice! Seriously, this will taste just as good even if you are just eating the rice and nothing else.

The portion is alright to be share between 2 people if you intend to order other dishes.

Price: $35

Seafood Soy Ramen

It comes with prawn, scallops, bamboo shoots, seaweed, egg, corns, black fungus and cabbage. We ordered the small size ramen. To be frank, this is not the best that I have tasted. So in my opinion, this will be consider overprice if it is not served in Hide Yamamoto.

Price: $23

Chawanmushi Black Truffle Flan with Fresh Sea Urchin

This is a to-die-for chawanmushi. You can taste truffle every mouth that you eat. The sea urchin is indeed fresh and this is probably the best chawanmushi I've tasted. The egg is soft and smooth. The serving is small and because it is so good, I would suggest that each person have their own share.

Price: $15

Foie Gras Marinated in SAIKYO MISO YUZU Flavor

The foie gras is well cooked. Slight cripsy on the outside and soft on the inside. It basically melts when you put it in your mouth. And the taste of the foie gras and the sauce lingers and make you want to have more! I totally love it!

Price: $24.50

Poulet at Bugis +

Its is very common to see a long queue during dinner time. This is the 2nd time that I am having Poulet. This time round, we queued for about close to 20 mins before we get a seat. So when you are the next in line to be seated, the staff will take your order immediately so as to save up the time. I thought it was a brilliant idea as it cut short unnecessary time wastage.

French Onion Soup

The onions are cooked till soft and basically every mouth that you scoop, there bound to be a spoonful of onions.

Escargot

These Burgundy snails are served in tomato sauce and garlic almond butter. Its pretty good. Can't exactly remember how much is this, but I vaguely remember that both the soup and escargot were less than $10 each.

Poulet Roti (Whole)

We ordered the whole roasted chicken to share. If you want to have it alone, you can order the half portion. In fact, the whole chicken was also abit too much for the both of us. The chicken is marinated  in the secret recipe for a day before it is roasted till golden brown. Thus even when you taste the chicken without the white home-made Mushroom Chardonnay Sauce, there's still this salty taste from the meat. This should cost roughly around $30 and it is definitely enough to feed 2 unless you are a big big eater.
