Fu Lin Tou Fu Yuen

The favorite kind of Yong Tau Foo that I like has got to be the An Pang style just like what Fu Lin ?Tou Fu Yuan sells. I love how they will deep fried every item that you picked and the meat sauce with thick bee hoon. It is located just beside Siglap Centre and just a few units away from the famous Cheesecake Cafe.

So this is the meat sauce thick bee hoon that I was talking about. If you prefer to have rice, they have it as well. But this is really a MUST try. And if you are a big eater, you may want to consider having 2 bowls!

The deep fried yong tau foo. We have ordered seaweed chicken, bittergourd, qual egg, fish cake, bean curd skin, wan ton, you tiao, ngoh hiang and I can't remember anymore.

We also ordered the lotus root soup seperately and it was pretty ok.

The total cost was just about $20 odd for everything. It is really cheap!

Saveur

We have intended to come visit this very-affordable-french-restaurant at Purvis Street. And each time we come, there is always a long queue outside. So we never have the chance to taste it. We came additionally on a Friday and reach about 6.30pm. There was no queue... Finally!

Mushroom Cappuccino

It really does look like a cup of cappuccino especially with the foam at the top. Other than the outlook, I don't see anything special about this soup. It's kinda diluted. So if you are the one who loves thick and creamy mushroom soup, this is not for you.

Price: $4.90

Chicken

A roulade of chicken thigh stuffed with foie gras-infused chicken farce cut into 6 small slices. They are layed on some 3-4 mouthful of creamy basmatic rice with Parmesan sauce. The taste of it is alright. When it came, I told B that we are so going to have prata later. I have also added sauteed potatoes for sides. The potatoes are awesome. They are basically crispy and salty on the outside. $2 for the portion you see on top, I think that is pretty worth it.

Price for Chicken: $9.90
Price for Sauteed Potatoes: $2

Pork

The pork belly does look good and tasty. The meat is tender and not overcook to. Not a huge piece if you are wondering how big it is. It is a size that you will not be full even after finishing up the entire plate of food. It is served with some creamy green lentils and soft boil egg at the side. B ordered potato au gradin for her side. There is nothing special about this potato. The sauteed potato will be a better choice.

Price for Pork: $10.90
Price for Potato Au Gratin: $3

Salted Caramel Lava Cake

This is from the separate special menu. I love salted caramel and this is almost perfect to me. The only thing that will probably make me come back to Saveur again will be this dessert. And the next time I will order 2 for myself. 1 for sharing is way too little especially if your partner likes it too. Both of you probably can only have a taste of 3-4 spoons each.

Price: $9.90

The portion for the food is really little. And therefore I wouldn't say that the price is cheap. It's more like paying lesser for a much smaller portion. The food is alright and liked I have mentioned, the salted lava caramel cake is the only reason that I will be back. But if I have to queue like a 30mins just for the cake, then I would rather eat it elsewhere.

Bistro Du Vin (Scotts Road)

This restaurant situated at a quiet part of town may not be easily spotted if you never know about it. And if you did, you will find a couple of gem and Bistro Du Vin is definitely one of them.

The complimentary bread is served warm and soft. But one thing that I don't quite like is the fact that they have placed the butter on the table even before we have sat down. I was thinking this could have been a mistake and only happens to our table. But when I looked around, the butter was placed on all tables. I thought it will be better that they only bring them out when they are going to serve the bread.

Pan fried foie gras with pickled eggplant and onion

I love foie gras especially the pan fried ones. This foie gras melt in your  mouth instantly. It comes with 2 pieces. I would say that it is the biggest portion that I have eaten and it is nicely done. It is good to share it and not have both shoved in your mouth quickly. Eating it too quickly may feel a little too oily and you may not be able to appreciate the taste.

Price: $26

Pan roasted Yorkshire pork chop

Served with caramelize shallot, garlic and mashed potato. The photos do not do justice to the tenderness of the meat. The meat is soft and juicy, not tough at all. It is easy to chew and as you can see there is still a tint of redness in the meat. It is properly done and not overcook. The mashed potato that comes with it is really tasty too. It is definitely mashed from the real potato and I believe it is not those instant kind which includes lots of starch.

Price: $28

Cod fish with squid

This is an off menu dish. It was written on the black board on the wall and we decided to give it a try since it is one of the special dish of the day. The cod fish is soft and the squid is just of the right texture. I am not a lover for cod fish because of the oily taste. But this is fine.

Price: $35

Souffle au Grand Manier with vanilla ice cream

I am not a lover for dessert but at times I do have sweet tooth and souffle is one of them that I will order whenever I need a sense of sweetness. It takes about 12 mins to have this prepare so please remember to get the staff to prepare it in advance. As you can see from the picture, the height of the souffle is nicely done. You have to eat it fast as it starts sinking very quickly. We didn't know that it contains alcohol. But if I were to minus the alcohol, this will be a perfect souffle.
